Rainbow Mountain Peru 2 Days Hike – The Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley 2 days Trek is an ultimate adventure which was designed to discover wild and remote colorful landscape with breathtaking views of the majestic Ausangate mountain (6.372m/20.900ft), the highest and most powerful deity mountain in the Cusco region. Our hike through Rainbow Mountain Peru & Red Valley leads us on a route far less travelled. As we camp overnight, far from the tourist crowds and bright lights of Cusco. On this 2 days of hiking, you will take advantage of the sunrise and be the first people to see the spectacular views of Rainbow Mountain of Peru and Red Valley where we will be ourselves in the vivid colors of the surrounding landscape, the peace, tranquility and majesty of this area of the Andes is overwhelming. Day 2: Surine Cocha – Rainbow Mountain/ Vinicunca – Red Valley – Cusco

CONSIDERATIONS:

  • This hike does not require a special permit from the government so you can book any time, but the best months are from April to Nov.
  • This trek that we offer, is isolated and rugged. We advise you to get used to the altitude by spending at least three days in Cusco (3,500meters /11,000feet). As well, you should be in good physical condition and be experienced hikers.

Pre-trek briefing: Our tour guide will meet you at your hotel in Cusco 1 or 2 days before depart. You will have a thorough briefing about the trek and you can take this opportunity to ask final questions and make any final preparations.

Day 1: Cusco – Pitumarca – Quesiuno – Anantapata – Surine Qocha

Our hike to Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley begin pick-up at 4 am from your hotel in Cusco and drive 3 hours to the trailhead. While we make our final trekking gear preparation our chef will be preparing a hot breakfast to give you all the energy you need for the trek ahead. After breakfast, our guide will spend some time talking through the day´s itinerary along with any safety tips to ensure you are fully prepared for the next couple days.

This amazing and less-known trek begins in a large green valley surrounding by views of the stunning Ausangate mountain looming in the distance. You will also see hundreds of Alpacas and pass numerous through Andean villages, observing first-hand the simplicity of the lifestyle of the Andean people.

As we continue making our way on the trail we will get to the fisrt pass of the trek called Pucca Qocha (5,000m/16,400ft.). From the Pass; we will enjoy the spectacular views of the Pucca Qocha Lake and the majestic Ausangate Mountain directly in front of you, you will witness first-hand this beautiful, active glacier crashing into the lake below.

After some photos at the pass we continue our journey for 2 hours through hilly road to Anantapata where we will stop for the lunch. Following lunch and rest, we will hike for another 3 hours we reach at the heist point of our trek called Minasniyuc Pass (5,050m/16.568ft). From here, we will have our fist view of the Vinicunca “Rainbow Mountain” in the distance.

After enjoying the views at the pass we start walking down for 45 minutes to reach our campsite right next to the lake Surine Qocha. Upon your arrival our staff will greet you, show you to your tents, and get ready for happy hour and dinner that night.

Day 2: Surine Qocha – Rainbow Mountain/ Vinicunca – Red Valley – Cusco

Our trekking team will wake you up early with coca tea delivered to your tent and then, we will have time to pack up and enjoy a nice breakfast prepared by your trekking chef. After a hearty breakfast, we set off for our final climb to Rainbow Mountain/Vinicunca and the lesser known (but equally spectacular!) Red Valley.

After hiking up for 45 minutes to the Rainbow Mountain lookout point. We will have time to explore on our own, take photos and soak the amazing vistas, not only of Rainbow Mountain, but also of Ausangate and the other Andean peaks that dominate the area. It truly is a magical place! The advantage of this trek is, we arrive earlier than other companies so you get the mountain all to yourself!

After enjoy the gem of the Peruvian Andes, we then start our hike to the spectacular Red Valley. As mentioned, this is a lesser known, lesser travelled area and you will be amazed not only by the beauty, but also by the tranquility. It is just 30 minutes hike to reach the Red Valley lookout point from where we will have views right across the valley.

Finally, we take a 4-hour descent passing more Llama farms and villages. We may even spot some vicuñas which are the only non-domesticated animals seen in Peru since pre Inca times. After final delicious lunch, we take bus journey back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.
