Pisac Ruins Hike Itinerary

For this amazing day hike to the ruins of Pisac, we will meet you at your hotel, either in Cusco or in the Sacred Valley, at 8:30 am to begin this tour, and then, we will drive to the Pisac ruins. Once we are at the upper part of Pisac, we will start the trek with incredible vistas of the Valley, observing set of sweeping agricultural terraces that descent down to the mountainside. Then, we will see a series of ceremonial baths fed by an intricate network of stone channels and the Inca cemetery on the hillside (hundreds of holes in the mountain). Continuing on, the path, we will explore small Inca neighborhoods, located atop the rugged mountain (the urban settlement known as Q’alla Q’asa).

We will then descend to the religious part of Pisac through a beautiful lithic doorway which marks the entrance to the main temple complex. Following the undulating path with breathtaking views on the way, we will pass through the tunnel to see a small residential dwelling and agricultural zone.

The next place to explore is the main temple complex of Pisac Ruins in the lower part. The religious part of Pisac is equal to the grandeur of anything that can be found in Machu Picchu, the temple complex is simply spectacular, which is the highlight of this trek. Located on a small ridge with panoramic views on both sides, the citadel is made up of about a dozen buildings, constructed using the finest pink granite carved stones. The Sun Temple featuring an Intiwatana is the center piece. The temple is perfectly aligned with the winter solstice sunrise. The narrow water channels, uniform stonework, altars and wells found in this area reflect its spiritual and sacred importance.

After exploring the religious part of Pisac, we continue the trek through the Inca Trail by viewpoint which looks out over the three converging valleys that surround Pisac. Afterwards, we descend to the town of Pisac, observing the incredible abilities of Inca civil engineering. Once we finish our Pisac Ruins trek, we enjoy the typical market in Pisac, before head back to your hotel.

Pisac Ruins Hike Does Not Include

• Entrance fee to visit the described Incan sites on this hike: All of the sites visited on this tour require the Tourist Ticket. You can purchase this ticket at your first stop for 70 soles for a one day pass, or 130 soles for the 10-day pass
• Lunch: We will stop in Pisac for lunch at a local restaurant. If you prefer another location, please feel free to tell your guide. This meal is not included in your tour cost.

Important Note about Cusco Tourist Ticket

• To visit the historical sites in the Sacred Valley, it is important to purchase an admission partial ticket (Boleto Turistico Parcial) whose cost is PEN 70 Peruvian soles (USD 25 per ticket) which allows you to access four historical sites like Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray, and Chinchero (in other words, it is used only for Sacred Valley). This ticket is valid for 2 days. Therefore, in our quotation, this entrance ticket is included. If you take one of the day treks, in which, the historical sites are not part of the itinerary, so the admission ticket will be excluded from the quotation.
• If you get planned to visit other historical sites out of Sacred Valley, like the ones located in Cusco, our recommendation is that you need to purchase the general admission ticket (Boleto Turistico General) whose cost is PEN 130 Peruvian Soles (USD 45 per ticket), this ticket allows you to visit 14 historical sites, which are located in Cusco, Southern part of Cusco, Sacred Valley, and some museums in Cusco city. The ticket is valid for 10 days. The Maras salt ponds ticket is not part of the boleto turistico parcial or boleto turistico general (partial or general ticket), this ticket should be purchased at the entrance of the same place, whose cost is PEN 10 Peruvian soles (about USD 4 per ticket).
• Kids under 10 Years old do NOT pay any entrance fee
