Trip Details for Sacred Valley & Inca Trail Package 3 Days & 2 Nights

Activities: Archaeological Site Tours, History, Hiking, Archaeology & Cultural Adventures

Physical Grading: This itinerary is rated Easy-moderate. You do not need to be a vastly experienced hiker but should be undertaken by people who are fairly fit and take regular exercise, and prepared for multiple hours of activity to make everything easier and more enjoyable. Since the short Inca Trail includes one day of hiking of 5-6 hours to the ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.

Accommodation: The Sacred Valley & Inca Trail Package 3 days & 2 night includes two nights hotel accommodations, one in the town of Ollantaytambo/Sacred Valley and the other at Machu Picchu Pueblo “Aguas Calientes” after Inca Trail hike. Rooms are based on double occupancy. You can also book the tour without hotels, if you prefer to book it on your own. Just let us know

Group Size: A minimum of 2 people required to depart (min 2 – max 8 / average 4). Couple travelers, friend travelers, family groups are welcome to this fantastic adventure and tour of Sacred Valley with Inca Trail included. Prices are per person in USD, which are based on two people. The itinerary is described and based on shared services; however, you are looking for a private service, that would be upon request.

Limited Spaces: Yes. To protect the historical trail, the number of people allowed to hike the Short Inca Trail each day is limited to 250. That is why you should reserve your space as soon as possible. Spaces can be filled up three to four months in advance. Spaces fill more quickly in the high tourist season, from May to September.

Acclimatization: Since the short Inca Trail trek is carried out at a much lower altitude than the classic 4-day Inca Trail; you do not need to worry about acclimatization as much, although many people still find themselves short of breath when arriving at Wiñay Wayna so this trek should certainly not be considered an easy option. We recommend 1-day in Cusco before embarking on the Sacred Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Need to book in Advance: Of course, to get your preferred travel dates, due to the limited number of Machu Picchu, Inca Trail, Huayna Picchu, Montaña Machu Picchu permits released for each day by Peru’s government, you are encouraged to reserve your tour choices well in advance of their arrival date. Train tickets, entry tickets and good hotels are highly in demand and sell out early, especially during the high season or if you want to climb up Huayna Picchu Mountain. If you reserve early, then we can guarantee everything. For last minute reservations, we will do our best depending on what train tickets and hotels are available.

The meeting will be at 5:00 pm the evening before the trek begins. In case you can´t at this time “please let us know” to coordinate another time.

Day 1: Cusco – Sacred Valley Tour – Ollantaytambo

The Sacred Valley of the Incas or the Urubamba Valley, located along the Urubamba River, is an incredible vast valley steeped in history and natural beauty that offers a lot of tourist attractions to visit and see like the Inca ruins of Pisac and Ollantaytambo that are located at either end of the valley and in the middle offer recordings by ancient salt mines, Inca amphitheaters, local farms, and non-tourist markets and unique cultural and culinary tours. One day is not enough to visit all of them, that’s why we have split it into 2 options to visit it properly. Any of these options start at 7:00 am at your hotel in Cusco. See the options below and let us know which option you want:

OPTION 01: By Maras Moray route (Chinchero, Moray, Salt Ponds, and Ollantaytambo)

To begin the Sacred Valley to Inca Trail 3 days tour, we will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at 7:00am. In our private Van, we will then take a road that leads to Chinchero and Maras Moray for a full-day exploration of the Sacred Valley.

From Cusco, we will drive for about 45 to 50 minutes through beautiful Andean mountains and farmlands to the town of Chinchero (3,762m / 12,343 ft). Here we will visit a weaving co-op where we will watch a demonstration of local weavers who are using Inca techniques for dyeing fabric and for weaving traditional patterns, and learn about the ancient weaving process which is still practiced here. Then we will visit the Chinchero archaeological site where we will see the remaining Inca buildings and terraces here that were important for the administration of farming.

Then we will head to the mind-boggling impressive Moray archaeological site (3,385 m/11,106 ft) made up of a series of giant circular terraces and a complex irrigation system. These unique and grand circular terraces were made in natural depressions and seemed to have been used as a type of laboratory for growing and testing new varieties of vegetables at different temperatures.

After exploring and having a thorough tour at the circular terraces of Moray and enjoying the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys in the background. We will drive to the town of Maras to enjoy a lunch (lunch is not included). Following Lunch, we will head in our private transport to these surreal salt ponds, known as Maras Salt Mines, or locally as Salineras de Maras.

At the Salineras de Maras we will see a collection of salt mines that have been used since pre-Inca times and how the mines are fed with springs saturated with salt and will also learn the important role that salt played during the Inca Empire. There are over 3000 salt ponds that are still in use today and have a pink hue and are well known for its healing properties and delicious flavor.

Once we end exploring the ancient salt pans in Maras, we continue traveling through the Sacred Valley along the Urubamba River to the small town of Ollantaytambo to explore its archeological ruins and witness a great example of Incan architecture.

Within the Ollantaytambo archaeological site, we will find a series of very important places, like the amazing Temple of the Sun, Moon, and The Temple of the 10 Niches that features massive stones at the top. This site was an important religious and astronomical center, and was also used as a military fortress in one of the biggest battles the Incas had against the Spanish.

At the end of the guided tour to the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, we will drop you off at your hotel in Ollantaytambo. Overnight in the town of Ollantaytambo.

OPTION 02: By Pisac Route (Alpaca Farm, Pisac Ruins, Pisac Market, and Ollantaytambo)

We will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco at 7:00am to start your amazing 3-Day Sacred Valley Tour and Short Inca Trail! After 30 minutes journey through the mountains with beautiful views of the landscape and countryside our first stop will be at the Alpaca Farm or in the conservation center of camelids.

Here we will see all four species of the native camelid family up close; alpacas, llamas, guanacos and vicunãs, treasured by the ancient Inca civilization and a sacred symbol of Peru. Your guide will teach you to recognize each of them by their physical characteristics, you can feed them and take pictures or lama selfies.

Afterwards, we will head to the Sacred Valley’s viewpoint known as Mirador of Taray, a place where you can appreciate the majesty of this beautiful and fertile valley with the Vilcanota River snaking in the middle, your guide will give you time for photographs.

After enjoying breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley, the Urubamba River, and the Andes Mountains. Then we will embark on our van to one of the most important archaeological sites in the region, called Pisac, to see Inca burial grounds, ancient irrigation systems and astronomical centers. The stunning agricultural terraces and ancient constructions await.

At the archaeological site of Pisac, we will visit the ruins and terraces for about an hour. After exploring Pisac ruins, we will continue our sacred valley tour and go down to the town of Pisac located at the bottom of the valley. In this town we will walk through the cobble-stoned street to the plaza to see locals selling produce and souvenirs in their stands. You will have some free time to browse and do some shopping here as well.

After scouring the market in Pisac, we will drive along the Urubamba River through Sacred Valley to the town of Urubamba to enjoy a buffet lunch at an Andean restaurant in Urubamba (lunch is not included in a price). Following lunch, we will head to the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo where we will have to climb to the top where the temples are located like Sun Temple and Moon Temple, it will be stairs, but your guide will take you peacefully so that you can enjoy the views.

At the end of the guided tour to the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo, we will drop you off at your hotel in Ollantaytambo. Overnight in the town of Ollantaytambo.

Most people need one or two days to adjust. In case you have a hard time adjusting to the altitude, it is suggested to have protection for missed tours.
  • Flights: Most people will get to Cusco by air. Please remember that the Cusco airport is for domestic travel only. If you come directly from overseas through Lima, you must get your bags in Lima and re-check them for your flight to Cusco. LATAM Perú is the most reliable of the airlines. Avianca and Peruvian Airlines are acceptable companies, as well. They all offer similar schedules and in-flight service, but we usually recommend either LATAM airlines or AVIANCA. They tend to be the most helpful when unexpected flight cancellations or delays occur. You will not return from your last day tour until around 8 p.m. on day two, so be sure your flight is not until the next day, when leaving Cusco.

      • If any of the information on your passport does not match the information we were previously provided, you won’t be able to start the trek.

If you originally booked with an old passport and then renewed your passport, you must also bring your expired passport along with your new, valid passport to permit entry or they will refuse your entrance to the trail.
    • Cancellations: Your deposit is 100% non-refundable. If you need to cancel for any reason, as you approach your tour start date, there may be additional cost due. • In extreme cases when the “Inca Trail to Machu Picchu” is declared closed for safety reasons, Peru Spirit Adventure will replace your trek with an alternative trek.

    VERY IMPORTANT:

    • We strongly suggest spending time at high altitude (above 3000 meters / 9842 feet)- in Cusco or another high altitude area for a minimum of 2- 4 days before undertaking your trip. This is in order to minimize the possible effects of altitude sickness. By drinking plenty of fluids, adding sugar to your drinks, eating food high in carbohydrates, avoiding cigarettes, alcohol, and drinking coca tea (ancient traditional leaf) will help your body acclimatize.
    • We recommend you arrive in Cusco 48 hours or more before trek departure because occasionally we need to leave earlier than scheduled in case of strikes or other events out of our control (see ‘Force Majeure’ section below)

You accept and grant to Peru Spirit Adventure – Tour Operator the right to use your images, photos, and videos that show or describe during your participation in any tour, trekking or adventure, in any advertising of any type, without payment of any additional consideration.
