Yes, to protect MACHU PICCHU, the number of people allowed a day is limited to 4040 (spaces may vary depending on new regulations). That is why you should reserve your space as soon as possible.     Cusco – Tambomachay – Quenqo Village

    To begin your Huchuy Qosqo Trek, we’ll recollect you from your hotel at 7:00am and drive for 25 minutes in a private transport towards Tambomachay, just outside Cusco. Here we start the hike, after climbing for about 4 hours and enjoying spectacular views of the Andes, enjoy lunch at Koricocha Lake 3700m (12139ft). Following lunch, we’ll hike another 3 hours to Kenko Village (3800m/12,467ft), where we’ll camp in comfortable tents under the stars.

    Quenqo Village – Huchuy Qosqo – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

    After breakfast, we’ll hike for about 3.5 hours to Huchuy Qosqo Inca site 3600m (11811ft) and then explore this beautiful archeological complex built by the Inca Empire more than 500 years ago. After exploring Huchuy Qosqo, we’ll enjoy lunch and descend for 1 hour to the village of Lamay. After, take the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes to spend the night in a hotel.

    Explore the great Inca city of Machu Picchu with an expert tour guide, and learn the history of this spectacular Inca citadel from your tour guide, before coming back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch. In the afternoon, take a train to return to Ollantaytambo and then our private transport to your hotel in Cusco.

Full Itinerary of the 3-day Huchuy Qosqo to Machu Picchu trek

Pre-departure briefing: We’ll meet you at your hotel in Cusco for an orientation the night before your 3-day hike to Huchuy Qosqo and Machu Picchu to go over the itinerary and you can take this opportunity to ask final questions and make any final preparations. The meeting will be at 5:30 pm the evening before the trip begins. In case you can´t at this time “please let us know” to coordinate another time.

Day 1: Cusco – Tambomachay – Quenqo Village

Highlight of the day: Hiking through the stunning Andean scenery. Over the course of the day, we will cross four gentle passes. Along the way, we will pass pretty alpine lakes and pastoral landscapes with grazing alpacas and potato fields.

To beging 3-day, 2-night Huchuy Qosqo to Machu Picchu trek, we’ll pick you up from your hotel at 6:30am and drive you in a private transport for 25 minutes to the trailhead, known as Tambomachay, located at an altitude of 3,700 mt (12,139 ft).

During this first section, we’ll pass by Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, and Puca Pucara. Tambomachay is where we’ll start our hike and where we’ll meet the remainder of our team: The horseman who’ll lead the horses, and the chef.

We will pack our gear on the horses and then start hiking gently, uphill for an hour and half until we reach the first pass of our excursion (4,100 m / 13,451 ft). Along this part of the route, you’ll be able to enjoy some awe-inspiring views of Cusco city, spectacular views of two valleys and the surrounding mountains.

From the pass, we will follow along the side of the valley, making our way towards the top, to cross over to the other side. It’s about a 1-hour walk to the top end of the valley. Once we get there, we’ll cross a small stream that divides the valley, and begin making our way to our lunch spot, at Queullacocha Lake.

The scenery at the lake is quite barren because the whole area is a high puna between the mountains, and is covered with tough, Andean grass, called Ichu. It may be possible to see a variety of bird life, such as Andean Geese, Lapwings and Partridges as well as a variety of birds or prey, all of which are regularly spotted throughout the day.

After our lunch, we’ll ascend for 45 minutes to the second pass, which is the highest point of our entire trek (4,200 m / 13,780 ft). From this point, we’ll be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of Chinchero, the lake Piuray, the Qoricocha lagoon (golden lake) and snow-capped mountains Salkantay, Veronica, Pitusiray, Chicon and San Juan snow peaks.

Then we will continue for another 3 hours, gradual gradually uphill and downhill, towards the village of Quencco, beautifully nestled in the Peruvian Andes at (3800 m/12,467 ft). Here we will spend the night. Qenqo (also spelled kenko) is a small village with few inhabitants who survive and live mostly from agriculture, producing potatoes and beans and raising llamas, alpacas, and sheep.

Late in the afternoon, we will have warm water to wash, tea time, dinner, and some well-deserved rest in comfortable tents.

Day 2: Quenqo Village – Huchuy Qosqo – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

Highlight of the day: Hiking through the stunning landscape that the Sacred Valley and Peruvian Andes offer and walking around the unique Huchuy Qosqo complex and learning all its secrets.

We’ll wake you up bright and early with a steaming cup of coca tea and then enjoy a fantastic breakfast in our camp. After breakfast, we set off our hike to the archeological site of Huchuy Qosq. Along the way, we’ll pass by many local people who will be tending to their llamas.

After hiking uphill and downhill for about 2 hours, enjoying amazing views of the snow-capped mountains in front of us and the sacred valley, we will reach a stretch of the original Inca Trail, just below the village of Pumamarca.

Once we reach the Inca Trail, we continue our hike to Huchuy Qosqo, passing through a narrow but magical canyon and beautiful micro-climate, full of lush vegetation. As we make our way down the valley, we will be able to see snow-capped mountains and the famous Urubamba mountain range and spot a variety of hummingbirds that feed off of the flowers.

Then we will pass through an adobe Inca gateway, and finally arrive to the magnificent Inca site of Huchuy Qosqo (3,600 meters / 11811 feet), which is perched above the Sacred Valley of the Incas and surrounded by clear blue skies above and bounded by streams on both sides.

Huchuy Qosqo ruins, an infrequently visited ancient Inca site that translates as “Small Cusco”. Here, we will see amazing Inca buildings, like sacred temples, storehouses, big plazas, water channels, Inca terraces for agriculture, an Inca reservoir used to store water in the dry season, and spectacular views controlling the Sacred Valley, Urubamba River, and the Peruvian Andes.

Our tour guide will take you on a tour on the archeological site of Huchuy Qosqo while you explore and enjoy pretty views of the valley, then we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our trekking chef. Following lunch, we will hike for about 2 hours downhill by open terrain and switchback trail to the village of Lamay (2,800 meters).

We will then drive in our private transport to Ollantaytambo, “Last Living Incan City,” also known as the “World Capital of the Native Americans.” If the time allows us, we can explore this incredibly quaint town with its narrow, cobblestone streets and stone buildings that have been continuously inhabited since the 14th century.

After dinner in a local restaurant in Ollantaytambo town, we will walk down for 10 minutes to the train station to take the 7:00 pm train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) to spend the night in a hotel.

Day 3: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

Highlight of the day: Witness the sunrise in Machu Picchu Citadel and then explore every inch of the astounding feat of humankind, Machu Picchu with a private guide

Today on our final day, we will get up very early to prepare for the highlight of your adventure, visiting Machu Picchu – the Lost City of the Incas. We like to get there before the other groups so you can enjoy the early morning light in peace and make the most of your time at the site.

After breakfast in the hotel, we will then take one of the first buses 5:30am to drive along the winding road to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu. If we time things just right, we may get to witness the sunrise over this amazing Inca citadel from the Watchman’s Hut.

After taking pictures and witnessing the magnificent sunrise over the Inca city, we will have 2 hours guided tour of Machu Picchu, where we will learn the history and discover the secrets of this mysterious and charming Inca ruin.

We will visit all the most important areas of the citadel. The architecture of the Incas is astonishing! They constructed a safe, sustainable city with excellent planning on top of the mountains thanks to their deep relationship in harmony with Mother Nature. You’ll be fascinated as the citadel’s secrets are unraveled before your eyes.

After guided tour, you can take an extra hike to Huayna Picchu mountain or Machu Picchu Mountain (tickets must be booked as far in advance as possible, and you can only choose one of them). If you chose to climb the Huayna Picchu, you’ll do it at 10:00 am. Otherwise, you’ll have free time in Machu Picchu to explore.

Once you finish with the Inca citadel, you will take the bus from Machu Picchu back to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, at 14:55 pm or 15:20pm take the Expedition train (tourist class) back to Ollantaytambo. From there, our private transport will pick you up and take you back to your hotel in Cusco. The drop-off will be back at your hotel around 7:30 pm.

The hike starts at (3,600 mt. / 11,811 ft.) to reach the Siwar Pass (4,000 mt / 13,123 ft.). enjoying a beautiful panoramic view of the Urubamba mountain range. The adventure continues with a 2-hour tour to the archaeological park of Huchuy Qosqo, a beautiful Inca city built on the heights of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Its name in Quechua means -Little Cusco-. There the guide will present the history of this place taking a tour. Then the walk continues for a couple of hours by a steep descent to the district of Lamay, from where you return to Cusco… Our Huchuy Qosqo day hike is ideal for those looking for short treks.
