Places to Visit on this tour:

Moray archaeological site:

Moray is one of the most famous archaeological sites in Peru, located in the Sacred Valley and northwest of Cusco, on a high plateau at about 11,500 ft (3,500 m) above sea level and west of the village of Maras.

This stunning archaeological complex of Moray is compounded by 4 Roman amphitheater-like circular terraces situated in enormous holes in the ground, the deepest one is 30 meters. Although these terraces’ purpose is unknown, it is widely believed that Moray ruins were used as an agriculture lab where the Incas adapted different crops, or agricultural experimentation site.

Besides, the circular terraces of Moray, have an irrigation system and a filter system was made to ensure that when it rained a lot, the floods would not damage the crops. In fact, in the times of the Incas, the circles were not only used for growing crops and experimenting but in the deepest circles ceremonies to the Mother Earth (Pachamama) took place. So the gran circular terraces were also used for spiritual purposes.

Maras Salt Mines

These surreal salt ponds, known as Maras Salt Mines, or locally as Salineras de Maras is found in the high plains above Urubamba and hidden in the Sacred Valley, near Maras town, with over 3000 salt ponds, Salineras have been in this place since pre-Inca times.

Maras’ villagers harvest the salt using the evaporation system, irrigating the ponds daily for up to a month. Once the slat gets thick enough, about 10 cm, they will harvest and deliver it to the Local markets. Each member of Maras village owns a certain number of ponds, and they all make a Local company called MARASAL.

Pisac Archeological Site

The Inca site of Pisac is among Peru’s most extensive archeological sites in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Located at the eastern end of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This ancient Incan complex of Pisac is compounded by a residential settlement, surrounded by Inca walls and large farming terraces, ceremonial baths, and the largest Inca cemetery in South America.
