Day 1:: Cusco – Socma – Perolniyoc – Rayanniyoc

We will pick you up very early from your hotel in Cusco, and leave by van for 2 hours until you reach the village of Socma (3000m / 9,842ft.) the starting point of our trek, where we meet the horsemen and horses.

We start our expeditions to Perolniyoc Inca ruins. Along the way, we will have a wonderful cascade, where we have time to take pictures and take a rest. Then we will hike up 30 minutes more to get to the archaeological site of Perolniyoc that are in the upper part of the valley. After exploring and receiving information of the ruins from your guide, we continue for another 30 minutes to the lunch spot, known as Rayan-Niyoc (3.600m / 11,811ft.). After lunch, we will keep ascending for an hour towards the first camp.

Day 2:: Rayanniyoc – Inti Punku – Choquetacarpo

We will wake up very early and have breakfast before a challenging trek. This second day is, the most difficult day but at the same time a rewarding day.

The first 3 hours is uphill to the top of the first pass, known as Puccaqasa (4,370m / 14,337ft.). Where we will have an impressive view of undulating valleys below, after hiking 1 hour more we will arrive at the place of lunch, stopping to rest and catch our breath.

After a nutritious lunch, we will continue our hike for 2 hours until reaching the highest point of the trek: known as Kuychicassa (4450m / 14599ft) with breathtaking views of the valley below.

Subsequently, we continue descending for another 2 hours a site the Incas called Inti Punku (Sun Gate), with imposing views over the valley below and the Veronica Mountain raising over the horizon. Our campsite is Choquetacarpo (3600m / 11811ft). We set up our tent and overnight there.

Day 3:: Choquetacarpo – Cachicata Inca Quarry – Aguas Calientes

After a delicious breakfast, we continue on our way towards the quarry of Cachicata (3,820m / 12,532ft.). Where we can witness the work of the Incas. It was the quarry used by the Incas for the construction of Ollantaytambo, including several large buildings, quarry stones left half-finished and abandoned throughout the site, chullpas (burial houses) and a cave with Inca mummies still in place. After exploring this site, we will continue descending for 3 hours to the small village of Ollantaytambo, the end point of this challenging and fascinating hike.
In the afternoon, we ride by train to Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night in a hotel. Enjoy a well-deserved rest tonight in the village of Machu Picchu and be prepare for visiting Machu Picchu Inca site “The Lost City of the Incas”.

Day 4:: Explore Machu Picchu – Cusco

Waking up early, and with bursting with excitement on your final surreal day, we will catch the first bus to Machu Picchu Inca site, entering the site as it opens. The tour guide will guide you around 2.5 hours, during which you’ll learn about the Incas and the history of Machu Picchu. After guiding tour you will have a free time for yourself to explore one of the New 7 Wonder of the World and UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
If you wish to indulge in a few of the following activities on your own, you have to book in advance:

  • Climb up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain to appreciate the beauty and magnificence of Machu Picchu from the views above ” $25 each additional cost”.
  • You will be given some time to walk to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). (Free of cost).

After visiting the Machu Picchu ruins, you will descend to Aguas Calientes, have a leisurely lunch on your own, and later on board the train for the return trip to Cusco stopping at the Ollantaytambo train station, where you will take our private van back to Cusco, our service will end at your hotel.

  • Original passport.
  • Original and valid International Student Card (ISIC), if booked as a student
  • A good-quality (and small) daypack. Maximum allowed in Machu Picchu is 25 liters, but the smaller the better.
  • Hiking boots (waterproof). Sneakers are acceptable but expect to get wet
  • Long-sleeved shirts to prevent sunburn.
  • Hiking pants.
  • Hiking socks.
  • At least one bottle of water. Additional bottles of water can be purchase on the way there.
  • Hat and sunglasses to protect you from the sun.
  • Rainwear or poncho for the rainy season (December to April). Please note that it can still rain during the dry season.
  • Fleece.
  • Camera with extra batteries.
  • Extra money for drinks and tips, souvenirs. We recommend having both soles, in addition to your home currency.
  • Sunblock.
  • Optional: Personal medical kit. Disinfectant, aspirin, stomach tablets, medicine to avoid altitude sickness, etc.
  • Optional: Bathing suit for hot springs in Aguas Calientes.

Aditional Option SACRED VALLEY TOUR MACHU PICCHU

Several additional options are available for purchase, at the request of the hiker(s).  Please make sure to prearrange these options at the time of booking, as most of them require special permits and/or tickets.

UPGRADE TO THE VISTADOME

We include the Expeditions (Tourist) train for all our tours. It leaves from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo. Then we transfer from Ollantaytambo to Cusco to your hotel. The Vistadome train is upgraded with an additional cost of $ 75 USD per person. The Vistadome train offers slightly larger seats, windows, and even some entertainment. The Vistadome train is booked for 4:43 pm. and it travels from Aguas Calientes to Poroy, a train station closer to Cusco.  After we transfer from Poroy to Cusco.

HUAYNA PICCHU MOUNTAIN

If you would like to climb the Huayna Picchu Mountain that stands next to Machu Picchu. This is an additional cost of $35 USD per person. It is a 45 minutes hike to the summit. This hike is done on your own. Your guide will direct you the entrance, where you will begin to hike. This is an additional entrance ticket that we have to book in advance in order to secure the entrance ticket.

MACHU PICCHU MOUNTAIN

If you would like to climb the Machu Picchu Mountain that stands above the Machu Picchu ruins. This is an additional cost of $ 35 USD per person. And it offers the most outstanding panoramic views that Huayna Picchu. But it takes an hour and a half or 2 hours to get to the summit. This is an additional entrance ticket that we have to book in advance, in order to make sure entrance fee.

EXTRA DAY AT MACHU PICCHU

If you would like to visit Machu Picchu ruins again the next day, this time on your own. We can organize for you. You will be in charge of your own expenses during this extra day in Aguas Calientes, including accommodations.
Extra night in Aguas Calientes after the trek, this can easily be arranged.
We will purchase your train ticket to return to Ollantaytambo o Poroy the following day. (Let us know at the booking time).
Entrance ticket to Machu Picchu. This is an additional cost of $ 55 USD per person.
The round trip bus ticket Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu. This is an Additional cost of $25 USD per person.
