Your guide will take you around the site and teach you about the history and other interesting stories. We’ll also enjoy an amazing sunset and contemplate the great Apurimac canyon, and keep our fingers crossed for the chance to see condors.
Choquequirao is much larger than Machu Picchu, although experts believe that only 30% of the Inca remains at Choquequirao have yet been excavated, the rest remains shrouded in mystery, so there is likely to be much more to explore in the future.
A spectacular Inca Site perched in the Peruvian Andes, Choquequirao, was one of the last Inca cities built in the cloud forest and abandoned during Peru’s conquest. It might have been one of the entrance checkpoints to Vilcabamba, the last capital of the Incas, in the 16th century.
You will visit plazas, temples and impressive terraces. All of this will make you wonder how the ancient civilization could have built such a feat on top of the mountains. Don’t miss some of the most important parts of the complex, such as the white stone llamas that were built to protect the important mountain overlooking the area known as Apu Qoriwayrachina.
Then, we’ll get back to our campsite to enjoy a dinner that will comfort your stomach and restore your energy. All meals included.

- Approx. night temperature: 5°C

Along the way, our tour guide will point out the beautiful flora and fauna of the area, we will also have an impressive view of the Canyon of Apurimac and waterfalls in the distance, as well as the clouds lifting from the bottom of the canyon. Also, if the weather is pleasant, we will get to enjoy the spectacular landscapes of the Andes.
From Marampata, the trail is steep downhill hike to La Playa that requires trekking poles. Halfway down, we’ll have a break to taste some fruit farmed in the area (Cactus fruit is the main attraction).
At the Playa, we’ll enjoy a nutritious lunch and then we’ll ascend for 2 hours to the Chiquisca camp (1950m / 6397ft), located in the backyard of the house of one of the local families. You’ll be able to observe closely the deep relationship that the Andean settlers have with Pachamama or Mother Nature. There, we will have our last dinner prepare by our trekking cook of the Choquequirao trek and rest peacefully. All meals included.
DAY 4: Chiquisca – Capuliyoc – Cachora – Cusco
- Hiking Distance: 7 km
- Hiking Time: 3-4h
- Highest point: 2,900m/ 9,512ft.
- Lowest point: 1,950m/ 6397ft.
Enjoy your last breakfast of the journey as you listen to the roaring Apurimac River and then we’ll start our last day of hiking and leave as early as possible to avoid the midday sun hindering our walk.
Take some last deep breaths and let Mother Nature guide you on his last section of the trek. It’ll be 3.5 to 4-hour climb upwards to Capuliyoc, a place where we’ll end our epic adventure. At Capuliyoc, we’re once again rewarded with spectacular views then enjoy our last lunch. Onward, we’ll have a farewell time to our trekking team that has accompanied you on this expedition.
Afterwards, we’ll board our private transport that will take us back to Cusco for about 4.5-hour with some stop offs on the way to visit the colossal rock known as Saywite (3500m / 11,483 ft), which is a pretty archaeological site located in the district of Curahuasi.
Saywite is an Incan complex that probably was built in the 16th century and believed to be the rock was of great religious importance to the Incas and focused on water. After your small history lesson, you’ll head back to the van, then return to Cusco and drop off at your hotel around 6:00 pm.

Like most trek in the Cusco region, the best time to do the Choquequirao trek, and all Peru hiking tours, is from May and October. This is the dry season in the Andes, making for sunnier weather and clearer days to take in the beautiful scenery. The driest months of the year is between June and August. The dry season is also the high season for the area, so Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail tend to be more densely populated. Fortunately, you can visit Choquequirao most of the year, but the best time is between the months of May to October due to is the dry season. It is not recommendable during the rainy season (December to March) in which the road becomes muddy and impossible to walk.

An experience you will never forget - he was so lovely!!!!!!!!!We went at our own pace and the trek was fantastic with stunning views! Goutam SVerified Trip to rainbow mountain this was a very difficult trip to rainbow Mountain. However, our guide Erfa made it possible for us. He was kind, supportive, encouraging, helping us with a local medicine to cope up with the altitude sickness. He always helped as maintaining a positive attitude and was friendly. he listened to our concern. He was watching our physical condition very very carefully! Even for the experience climber, this can be challenging at times considering the 18,000 feet above the sea level. Drivers of our car was also very experienced. We rode horses during part of our climbing. Overall, the individuals who help us with the horses , were excellent human being and very kind. Isabel LVerified Fabulous tour in the Sacred Valley Don’t hesitate to book with Peru Spirit, my mum and I had an amazing personalised day tour to the sacred valley, visiting Pisac and the Pisac markets, Ollantaytambo and Moray. Our guide Efra was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and made sure to go at our own pace. Our driver Roger was very nice and a great and safe driver. The vehicle was very comfortable, clean and in good condition. Our tour was 10/10. Joyce LVerified Sacred Valley Such an unforgettable trip to the Sacred Valley. Tour guide Anthony and driver both were doing great job in leading, I’ve had deep knowledge about this lovely country. Anh CVerified Amazing! We did the one day private tour from Ollantaytambo to Cusco stopping by Moray, Maras, Pisac, and an add on stop to a llama/alpaca farm. Anthony was our guide who was amazing! Very informative and knowledgeable about the area. The tour would not be the same without him. The van itself was spacious and comfortable for the four of us. We are very glad we decided to go with this company. MaMaRiDeVerified An amazing experience!!! We contacted Peru Spirit Adventure for a private tour to visit Cuzco and the surrounding area. We planned with them a four days tour to visit the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, and the Rainbow Mountains. We appreciated the expertise of the guide who took us to visit the places at the best times to avoid crowds of tourists. He pointed us to the scenic spots to take pictures or shop. Our only concern was to enjoy the beauty of those places without thinking about tickets, reservations, etc. This was especially appreciated at Machu Picchu where without a guide one cannot appreciate the history of the place. Special thanks to Anthony and the drivers who accompanied us on these magnificent days. We were absolutely satisfied and fulfilled by the highly professional service and highly recommend it. A 5 stars service !!! Mauro and Marco Raving NomadsVerified Highly recommend for trips around Cusco! We (3 women) spent 6 days with Adolfo, our guide and Marco our driver seeing incredible sights in Cusco and around. We visited Machu Pichu, Rainbow Mountain, Sacsaywaman, Pisaq, Moray, maras, Cusco and alpaca farms with them and also did a wonderful train ride from Olyantatumbo to Aguas Calientes. Lisa SVerified Absolute Best Customized Tour We had an absolutely fabulous time with Anthony and Peru Spirit Adventures. We booked a 4 day personal tour with a day of rest in between day 2 and 3. Unfortunately at the last minute 1 member of our party was unable to attend. Anthony and Peru Spirit Travel were wonderful in making some necessary changes to our schedule. Anthony’s insight and knowledge of the Inkas and Andean Culture Is astounding. We learned so much from him that we found ourselves wanting to learn more once the tour was over. We are already discussing another trip back to see all the things we did not have time for this trip. His love for this area is apparent in his teaching, each place we visited we learned so much, yet Anthony also let us explore on our own. it was perfect balance for us.Anthony had everything running like clockwork( except for the delayed train). Everything ran seamlessly, even with all the last minute changes that we requested.Anthony was a fantastic tour guide and I would recommend him to EVERYONE who wants a truly memorable adventure in the Cusco Region. We will return for another tour, and we will be requesting Anthony.
