Full Itinerary of the Pisac Ruins Hike in Sacred Valley

Pre-departure briefing: We’ll meet you at your hotel in Cusco for an orientation the night before your day trip to Pisac – or Hike to Pisac Ruins in Sacred Valley to go over the itinerary and you can take this opportunity to ask final questions and make any final preparations. Day 1: Pisac Ruins – Ancient Cemetery – Intihuatana – Farming Terraces – Pisac Market – Alpaca Farm

For this amazing day hike to the ruins of Pisac, we will meet you at your hotel, either in Cusco or in the Sacred Valley, at 8:30 am to begin this tour, and then, we will drive to the Pisac ruins. Once we are at the upper part of Pisac, we will start the trek with incredible vistas of the Valley, observing set of sweeping agricultural terraces that descent down to the mountainside. Then, we will see a series of ceremonial baths fed by an intricate network of stone channels and the Inca cemetery on the hillside (hundreds of holes in the mountain). Continuing on, the path, we will explore small Inca neighborhoods, located atop the rugged mountain (the urban settlement known as Q’alla Q’asa).

We will then descend to the religious part of Pisac through a beautiful lithic doorway which marks the entrance to the main temple complex. Following the undulating path with breathtaking views on the way, we will pass through the tunnel to see a small residential dwelling and agricultural zone.

The next place to explore is the main temple complex of Pisac Ruins in the lower part. The religious part of Pisac is equal to the grandeur of anything that can be found in Machu Picchu, the temple complex is simply spectacular, which is the highlight of this trek. Located on a small ridge with panoramic views on both sides, the citadel is made up of about a dozen buildings, constructed using the finest pink granite carved stones. The Sun Temple featuring an Intiwatana is the center piece. The temple is perfectly aligned with the winter solstice sunrise. The narrow water channels, uniform stonework, altars and wells found in this area reflect its spiritual and sacred importance.

After exploring the religious part of Pisac, we continue the trek through the Inca Trail by viewpoint which looks out over the three converging valleys that surround Pisac. Afterwards, we descend to the town of Pisac, observing the incredible abilities of Inca civil engineering. Once we finish our Pisac Ruins trek, we enjoy the typical market in Pisac, before head back to your hotel.
