For 1-day hike to Inca Quarry Trail, Peru Spirit Adventure will pick you up from where ever you are staying in Cusco, Urubamba, or Ollantaytambo. Pick-up from Cusco will be at 6 am, from Urubamba at 7, and if you stay in Ollantaytambo, you get to sleep in a bit with your pick-up at 8 AM. Assuming you stay in Cusco, After pick you up at 6 am, we drive for about 2 hours through the picturesque Sacred Valley until we reach Ollantaytambo, the only “living Inca town”, the starting point of the trail. We begin our Inca Quarry trail hike by crossing the bridge near Ollantaytambo, and following a fairly well-preserved Inca trail to Cachicata along the Urubamba river on the opposite site, the trail will take us approximately 4 to 6 hours round trip, to the quarries and a few more to reach the Gate of the Sun, depending on the pace of walking. As we go uphill, the panoramas of the Sacred Valley and massive mountains beyond open up into an amazing birds-eye view.

We will observe the paths where the great stone blocks were slid down the hillside and hauled across the river to Ollantaytambo by the Incas and the many blocks that remained unfinished. We will also explore the three separate granite quarries, located within half a kilometer of one another, littered with massive chiseled blocks, small “Chullpas,” or small tomb constructions that were built for housing mummies, considered to be guardian spirits for the people living and working in the area. From the banks of the Río Urubamba, we climb out of the valley for a good 2.5 hours to reach at Inca quarry, rising from 2.800m to 3.900m. We then carry on a further hour to see the Gate of the Sun perched on the ridge of the mountain, climbing about 450m on switch-backs. We’ll have a complete exploration of the site, led by our adventure tour guide. After exploring the Inca quarry, burial buildings, and the Sun Gate.

About midday we will rest and can picnic with our boxed lunch. Depending on how the hikers feels. After taking in the views and as many photographs as possible, we will begin the descent along the same Inca Quarry trail route to Ollantaytambo, enjoying the spectacular scenery along the way. Our transport will be waiting for us to take us back to the imperial city of Cusco, arriving between 5pm and 6pm. If you prefer to lodge in Ollantaytambo or Urubamba. Just let us know.
