The tour guide will explain the differences and importance of these South-American camelids (it is an optional stop).

Continuing the tour, we will stop at Taray viewpoint, an observation platform that offers breathtaking vistas of the Sacred Valley, the Urubamba river, the farming lands, and the Peruvian Andes.

The next stop is at the archaeological site of Pisac, an old Inca village erected on top of the mountain – the most extensive archaeological sites in the Valley of the Incas (it is even bigger than Machu Picchu). You will witness magnificent tombs, temples, and houses enclosed by gigantic walls. There are also agricultural terraces here.

After exploring the Pisac ruins, you will get in the car and go to Pisac to bargain in the handicraft market. Whether or not to visit the Pisac Market is your choice, as it is an optional stop. This local market in Pisac is particularly popular because the local craftspeople manufacture their goods and sell them directly to tourists.

Day 2: Sacred Valley Full-Day Tour (Ollantaytambo, Moray and Maras Salt Mines) – 1D

We start the second-day adventure to the Sacred Valley of the Incas with the pickup from your hotel, either in Ollantaytambo or Urubamba. The pickup time will be around 8 – 8.30 AM (it will be confirmed at the booking)

We will then lead you in a comfortable van to the lovely village of Ollantaytambo, known as the “Last living Inca City,” because it still has its original Inca streets, and people walk on them today. The town of Ollantaytambo, inhabited uninterruptedly since Inca times, serves as the gateway to Machu Picchu and the famous Inca Trail.

At Ollantaytambo, we will explore the well-guarded Inca citadel constructed to defend the Inca people from potential attackers. Besides, Ollantaytambo Inca fortress is one of the grandest Inca sites in the Sacred Valley, boasting Inca terraces, an otherworldly Temple of the Sun, a Water Temple with ceremonial fountains, and so much more.

Onwards, our private transport takes us on a scenic drive through Sacred Valley of the Incas to the amazing archaeological site of Moray (3,450 m/11,318 ft), the circular terraces used by the Incas for agricultural experiments, which is a great way to learn about the innovative farming practices of this ancient civilization. The stunning natural scenery and impressive Inca sites make for a memorable experience

After exploring the Moray Inca Site, we’ll head to the Maras town to make a stop at a local restaurant for a deserved lunch (Lunch is not included in the price). The small town of Maras in the Sacred Valley of Peru, about 40 kilometers northwest of Cusco, is known for its rich history, stunning natural scenery, and traditional salt production methods.

Besides, at Maras town, visitors can stroll through the narrow streets, admire the traditional adobe houses, and visit the beautiful colonial church built during the Spanish invasion. Following lunch, we’ll head to magnificent Salineras of Maras, (3200 m/10498 ft), just 20 minutes from Maras. The Salineras have been in use since pre-Inca times, and the traditional methods of salt production are still used today.

The ponds are owned and operated by local families who harvest the salt through evaporation, which can take up to a month. Once harvested, the salt is sold in local markets or used for traditional purposes. There are over 3000 salt ponds, and the harvesting process is truly fascinating and makes for a great photo opportunity.

Finally, if the time allows, we will drive 40 minutes to Chinchero (3,762 m/12,343 ft), where you can see traditional textile production and visit a colorful market, allowing visitors to shop and support local artisans.

The people of Chinchero are known as expert weavers, and they use a variety of natural fibers, including alpaca, llama, and sheep wool, to create beautiful textiles. They use various techniques, including spinning, dyeing, and weaving, to create intricate patterns and designs that reflect the culture and history of the region.

In Chinchero, you will also visit the Inca site and see colonial church built over the Inca worship place, as well as enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Travel Guide

The Sacred Valley is an incomparably beautiful place with small towns and ancient archaeological sites in the midst of rugged mountains northeast of Cusco. This valley was extremely important to the Incas due to its geographical location and excellent climate. To this day, it stands as one of the best places for corn production in Peru, which is a very popular food among Peruvians.

In the middle of the mountains runs the sacred river of Urubamba (also called Willkamayu or Vilcanota), the focus of Inca cosmology. The Incas knew this river was not only fully linked to the constellations and snow-capped peaks but was also the reflection of the Milky Way.
