This incredible day trip to Moray Inca Terraces, Maras Salt Pans and Pisac Archaeological Park from Ollantaytambo starts with pick-up from your accommodation in Ollantaytambo at 8:00 a.m.

Then, we will head toward the western side of the Sacred Valley of the Incas in our private transportation to explore the magnificent Moray, the Inca agricultural laboratory, and one intriguing sight not to be missed are the ancient salt pans, known as the Maras Salt Mines, or Salineras de Maras.

After scenic driving for approximately just over an hour through the Valley and mountains, providing the most spectacular views. First, you will visit the Salt Mines of Maras. Here we’ll see the amazing salt evaporation ponds, which were used by the Incas and quite possibly by pre-Inca civilizations. More than 3,000 salt pools are carved into the mountainside, which catch highly salty water as it emerges from a spring in the mountain. The ponds catch this water, where it slowly evaporates, leaving just the salt behind. This is collected via a communal process and is most famously used to make sal de Maras, the famous pink table salt. It’s an incredible sight looking down across the salt ponds, which look like they are covered in snow or ice.

Next, we will continue our journey to board our private transportation towards the Moray. Arriving at Moray, your guide will show you around the three amphitheater-like terraced structures. These terraces, which are carved in a circular series to create a bowl shape, are believed to have been used as a testing ground for various crops, to find the most optimal growing conditions. It’s an incredible sight and gives real insight into the genius of the Inca Empire.

After archaeological site of Moray, we will head for 45 minutes to Urubamba and enjoy a delicious buffet lunch of traditional Peruvian dishes. There’ll be a wide range of options available and it’s the perfect chance to try many foods.

Following lunch, we will continue driving for about two hours along the Urubamba River to reach archaeological site of Pisac, an Inca village built on top of the mountain, of which we will explore its lower part. This extraordinary place boasts a complex of impressive temples, houses, and hundreds of tombs enclosed by gigantic walls. There are also agricultural terraces you can explore.

After visiting the Pisac Inca site, we’ll make our way to the local town and check out the Pisac handicraft market (optional). After spending time at Pisac, we’ll head back to Cusco, where we’ll drop you off at your hotel in Cusco around 5:30pm to 6:00pm
