Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Sacsayhuman – Pisac Ruins – South Valley of Cusco – Pikillacta – Tipon – Cusco

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 7:00am in our private transport to start our Sacsayhuaman, Pisac, Pikillacta and Tipon Full Day Private Tour. Leaving the beautiful imperial city of Cusco, we drive to the famous archeological site of Sacsayhuaman, which is located high above the city of the Cusco.

At Sacsayhuaman, you’ll see impressive carved stone polygonal blocks of more than 100 tons of weight and 4 meters of allure. Each one forms incredible walls and stunning example of Inca engineering and culture. Among the fascinating ancient Inca sites, the Inca fortress Sacsayhuaman is the second most impressive attraction after Machu Picchu.

Once you explored the impressive archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman with your private guide, we will head into the Sacred Valley, admiring the beauty of the Sacred Valley along the way and learning about its historical and modern significance.

After scenic journey in our comfortable private van, we reach to the archaeological site of Pisac, located above the town. Here, we’ll explore the extensive ruins and enjoy the beautiful views across the valley. You’ll be given a guided tour of the ruins, passing through various structures that once served as homes, storage rooms, and temples, and you’ll also see how local inhabitants use ancient Inca agricultural techniques to cultivate the mountain slopes, achieving optimal productivity.

After visiting the site, we’ll visit the Pisac artisan market, a vibrant and colorful place offering a variety of handmade crafts for purchase. Around noon, we’ll enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at a tourist restaurant in the Pisac town. After lunch, we’ll head to the southern part of Cusco, specifically the South Valley, where lesser-known archeological sites are located but still amaze every traveller for the particular features they have.

Moving on, we will visit the Archaeological Center of Pikillaqta, located 30 km southwest of Cusco. Pikillaqta is considered one of the most famous and well-preserved Pre-Inca cities of the Wari culture, covering an area of approximately 50 hectares. The word ‘Pikillaqta’ comes from two Quechua words: piki (small or flea) and llaqta (village), which translates to ‘Small Village’ or ‘Village of Fleas.’ With our guide’s assistance, you’ll explore and appreciate the Pre-Inca stone walls of one of the Wari culture’s most significant cities, known for its well-planned and organized streets.

As the final stop, we will visit to Tipón, part of the Qhapaq Ñan route, located 25 km from Cusco. The archaeological site of Tipón, also known as the ‘Temple of Water,’ features a complex of agricultural terraces, long staircases, and stone-carved water channels. It showcases remarkable hydraulic engineering that astonishes both locals and visitors, attracting some of the world’s top scientists each year. Finally, we will return to Cusco, concluding the tour at approximately 5:30 to 6:00 PM.

Optional visit: Andahuaylillas Church. Please let us know at the time of your booking should you wish to add the Andahuaylillas Church to your visit and thus we can properly arrange the visiting time for each tourist attraction.

The traditional town of Andahuaylillas, located 36 km from Cusco. Andahuaylillas is part of the Andean Baroque route, and we’ll explore its incredible chapel, the Church of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas, also known as the Sistine Chapel of America, due to its beautiful wooden works, exquisite paintings, and colonial decorations that span from floor to ceiling. This highlights the artistry of the Cusqueños and creates a powerful visual impact inside. One of the unique features of this temple is that its baptistry contains an arch with the inscription ‘I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen,’ written in Latin, Spanish, Quechua, Aymara, and Puquina.
